  2. Difficulty against the real party

The encounter builder assembles a fight or a scene from your creatures, your NPCs, and your actual party, on a battle map — with the material you need at the table sitting beside it.

What an encounter carries#

  • Combatants drawn from your creatures and NPCs, in groups.
  • The real party, so difficulty is judged against who is actually playing.
  • A battle map from your Atlas.
  • Read-aloud text, tactics, complications, and rewards.
  • Random tables for the things you would otherwise improvise twice.

Difficulty against the real party#

Because the party view knows which adventurers are currently playing and at what level, an encounter can be weighed against the group at your table rather than an assumed four-person average.
