Assets
Your realm's images, in one library, attached where they belong.
On this page
Assets are the images in your realm: maps, portraits, handouts, tokens. They live in one library with folders and a storage quota, and attach to the records they belong to.
Getting images in#
- Upload your own.
- Import from Google Drive, which copies the reviewed file into DMRealm storage rather than linking to it.
- Generate one with AI, which lands in the same library with its origin recorded.
Attaching an image to a record#
Open Assets in an entity page's context panel to choose a thumbnail or attach an image to a role such as portrait, token, cover, or reference. The tab is available while viewing and editing; changing assets requires edit access. Choose an existing asset or upload an image. A record created moments ago, or while offline, takes attachments once it has reached your realm, and until then those buttons say so.
A new token or faction symbol is saved to the library before it is attached. If attaching then fails — the record was moved to Trash, or the connection dropped — it stays in the library, and you are told so and offered to try again. Trying again attaches the one already saved rather than making a second copy.
Choosing a thumbnail#
While editing, click the thumbnail itself to choose or upload an image. On pages with direct authoring, the thumbnail is editable alongside the other fields, and Save commits the choice. You can also choose it from the Assets context tab. Keep the original framing to reuse the original image; adjust the crop, zoom, or rotation to save a new crop asset while preserving the source. The thumbnail is used in lists and references, independently of a portrait or map token.
Provenance is recorded#
Every asset carries where it came from — uploaded, imported, or generated. That matters if you ever publish or sell your setting, because it is the difference between knowing your material is yours and hoping it is.
