DMRealm keeps three kinds of character separate on purpose, because they are used differently at the table.
- NPCs are the people in your world — their motivations, voice, secrets, and who they answer to. An NPC does not carry its own statistics.
- Creatures are stat blocks. They are organised into families, and can have variants and environment-specific notes, so one creature covers a dozen table appearances.
- Adventurers are your players' characters, with sheets, a guided builder, and level-up. They belong to the realm, so a character can retire in one campaign and return in another.
Why NPCs and creatures are separate
Because the same bandit statistics serve fifteen different bandits, and because most NPCs never need numbers at all. When an NPC does need to fight, you link it to a creature and the stat block comes along.
The party
The party view collects the adventurers currently playing, so encounter difficulty, treasure, and pacing can be judged against the actual group rather than a guess.
